Section Report 2013-2014

4th Weybridge Cub Scouts 2013/2014

We started this year with 18 Cubs and now have 28.  6 cubs are moving on to Scouts in September and we have 2 moving up from beavers and 2 new starters for next term.

Our biggest achievement this year is the award of Chief Scout Silver to Cub Scout Eddie, who has worked extremely hard throughout his time in cubs, we are overjoyed to be able to congratulate Eddie.

We are continuing to work on helping other cubs also achieve Chief Scout Silver for which the requirement is six Challenge badges – Creative, Community, Fitness, Global, Outdoor and Promise.  Many of the Young People already have 3 or 4 already and still have another year with us.  So keep up the commitment and hopefully this time next year we will be presenting you with this award.

We have so many highlights in the year, if we had to choose one it would be taking 13 cubs to Paxmead in June as it was definitely one of the best activities we offered this year.  To offer the children the opportunity to be out on the river either making rafts, canoeing, kayaking or rowing was brilliant.  We were also very lucky with the weather apart from one really heavy downpour on Saturday morning!

Some of what we included this year:

Autumn Term – Halloween evening (great fun), DIY, Top Golf, Pets at Home visit, ballista’s and fire lighting using different methods to light a fire.

Spring Term – After ice skating at Hampton Court Palace, the next week we had a visit from the University of Surrey where we saw Science in action.  We had a green cross code evening, learnt about safety both personal and in the home, went on a scavenger hunt in Weybridge, skateboarding and at the end of term we went caving.

Summer Term – All the children worked this term towards the Emergency Aid stage 1 badge, another first for cubs!  Climbing, Archery, Flour trail in West End woods, Thailand evening, Beep test, Global Charity.  We also went on two camps, cub camp at Paxmead and Family Camp just last weekend!

Throughout the year we managed to hand out a whopping 250 badges to our cubs – well done all of you.  We would also like to thank all the parents for their support, especially to those who also offer their time to come along to camp.

We are looking forward to another exciting year ahead!
